Hey, crafty friends! This is Maryám and I’m so excited to be back on the Altenew Scrapbook Blog. Today I’m going to be working with the beautiful Mix & Match Mariposa Die Set to create a fun mixed media spring layout.
I wanted this layout to have a mixed media feel and also use watercolors, embossing paste, etc. so in order to do that, the first thing I did was to take a sheet of white cardstock and cover it with a layer of white gesso.
After the gesso was fully dry I grabbed two stencils, Square Weave Pattern Stencil and Milky Way Stencil, and applied Embossing Paste with the help of my palette knife.
Next, I grabbed some of the Altenew Liquid Watercolors and with the help of a brush, I painted over the embossed background. I used several different colors because I wanted to have a very colorful page.
Here are the colors I used-
- Autumn Blaze
- Warm Sunshine
- Limeade
- Moss
- Emerald (Spring Garden Set)
- Turquoise
- Rubellite
- Purple Wine
- Midnight Violet
Once I finished painting, I took some of the dies from the Mix & Match Mariposa Die Set and cut them out from the background I colored before. I also cut out some more butterflies from vellum paper and patterned paper.
Following up, I started assembling the butterflies. Each of them had three layers- one from the mixed media background, one from vellum, and one from patterned paper. To adhere them, I used liquid adhesive but only in the center of them.
After I finished putting together all the layered butterflies, I put the photo, title, journaling, and of course, all the butterflies (I used double-sided tape to adhere them) on my page. To finish it up, I added some sequins and enamel dots.
You can check out the video tutorial here to learn how this page came together or watch it in HD on my YouTube channel.
